Boulder Flower Farm Wedding in Boulder, Colorado
Wedding Story
I’ve lived in Boulder for a decade and first discovered this venue through Sam and Laura’s Wedding. Sam and Laura approached their wedding as the ultimate hosts. Their wedding weekend consisted of hiking Sanitas with guests who arrived early, a laid back welcome party at Rayback Collective and of course their Boulder Flower Farm wedding day. Family arrived early to get ready on site, they ate pizza and relaxed together leading up to the ceremony. Sam and Laura were most excited about the catering at their wedding. They opted for a family-style dinner to encourage getting to know your neighbor and fostering a homey, dinner-party-like environment. Laura hand painted the table numbers with water color, an unique, handmade touch — I ended up telling her she should start a business because I was obsessed!
Boulder Flower Farm’s Charm
Boulder Flower Farm is a gem of a wedding venue. Located just 10 minutes from Boulder, Boulder Flower Farm is a homestead wedding venue and 10-acre flower farm. This Boulder wedding venue is intentional. Events here feel like you’re in an intimate garden at a family home. They limit the number of weddings they book each year and give their clients a meaningful and personal venue experience. They describe themselves as a blank slate, giving clients the freedom to design how and where they want their event laid out. They offer up to 5 buckets of loose floral stems from their bounty and include a custom vase arrangements. As a local, I adore supporting BFF via their Flower Shop or finding them at Colorado farmer’s markets to purchase local blooms! Between the beautiful tuscan inspired home and courtyard, tree-lined creek, blooming fields of flowers, and greenhouse, there is no shortage of beauty. I’d be remiss not to mention that this venue is dog friendly! Your pup makes everything better, especially your wedding day.
Getting Ready at Boulder Flower Farm
When booking Boulder Flower Farm as your wedding venue, you can access the home located on the property for getting ready. This getting ready space has plenty of bedrooms, kitchen and living spaces for your family and wedding party to get ready and relax the morning of your wedding. It has lots of natural light, mid century modern decor, and unique art, filling the space with charm and personality.
Ceremony Setting
As Boulder Flower Farm is a “blank canvas” venue, you could truly choose any of the romantic backdrops on the property for your ceremony. A popular choice is underneath the cottonwood trees that provide a bit of shade for your guests and nice even lighting for photography. The river is directly behind these trees so you hear sounds of the rushing water, bringing another layer of serenity to this stunning ceremony site. I’ve seen many different orientations; you and your design team can get creative and dream up something that feels authentic to your wedding vision. Sam and Laura brought their ceremony to life with live acoustic musicians and the natural beauty of the shady cottonwoods.
Cocktail and Reception Space at Boulder Flower Farm
Following the wedding shaded wedding ceremony, guests will absolutely adore spending cocktail hour in the courtyard of this Boulder homestead. The cocktail hour space brings the ultimate garden party aesthetic, embellished by the tuscan grape arbor, the Bader Schoolhouse (build in the late 1800s), and the quintessential Boulder flagstone patio. This space is so warm and welcoming, making your guests feel right at home.
Then it’s time for the reception aka party time! Unless you are having an intimate micro wedding, an event tent is going to be necessary for a wedding at Boulder Flower Farm as there is no established indoor reception space. While Colorado is blessed with 300 days of sun, it’s not uncommon to experience a weather pattern of afternoon storms in the late spring and early summer months. The unique benefit of Boulder Flower Farm is that you have the ability to choose the area you’d like your tent footprint to be placed, what type of tent you’d like, and the internal tent design and decor. When it came time for dancing, Sam and Laura opted for an outdoor dance floor surrounded by bistro lights. They danced under the glow of sunset into a night under the stars.
Wedding Photo Locations at Boulder Flower Farm
Okay now we get to talk about one of my favorite parts: wedding photos. I love this part for obvious reasons and for some not so obvious ones. Stepping away for your portraits can be a cherished time to connect just the two of you on a whirlwind kind of day. Boulder Flower Farm weddings are special because when you take this time to capture portraits, you get to simply wander through fields of flowers. It’s peaceful, romantic, and an absolutely stunning backdrop for the wedding photos you may end up framing. No two weddings at Boulder Flower Farm are the same; different flowers could be blooming from one week to the next. Sam and Laura’s mid-June wedding had some of the early summer blooms: luscious pink peonies and dainty white flowers referred to as “snow in summer.” Some of my absolute favorite portraits from this day are from a sunny field of “snow in summer.” Wedding couples also are permitted access to their greenhouse - again, different varieties will be blooming at different points of the summer and fall. This wedding provided us with gorgeous greens and succulents. I personally think it is so cool to have wedding photos inside a greenhouse. Other popular photo backdrops include the 1887 Schoolhouse on the property and of course, beneath the respite of the cottonwood trees.

Providing transportation is such a generous offering for guests. I personally recommend looking into transportation services for this venue since it’s in a slightly more rural part of Boulder and rideshares might be limited in this area.

Boulder Flower Farm strongly encourages working with a wedding planner for peace of mind. As a blank slate venue, there are a lot of moving pieces that all come together on your wedding day. A planner will take this pressure off your plate so you can just show up and enjoy. I do believe a day-of coordinator is required with BFF wedding bookings, but a partial or full service planner will be able to support couples in a more hands-on, long term way during wedding planning.
